What are veneers?

A refreshed, harmonious smile that looks natural and feels comfortable.

Veneers are thin, custom-made shells that are placed over the front surface of your teeth to improve their appearance. They are designed to correct a range of cosmetic concerns while preserving as much of your natural tooth structure as possible.
Veneers are commonly used to treat:

Chipped or worn teeth

Discolouration or staining

Minor misalignments

Uneven or misshapen teeth

Gaps between front teeth

Treatment Options

Veneer Options

We offer several veneer options to suit different goals, budgets, and cosmetic needs. Your dentist will help you choose the most appropriate option during your consultation.

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are thin, tooth-shaped shells custom crafted by a dental ceramicist. They are bonded to the front of your teeth to create a durable, stain-resistant, and highly natural-looking result. Ideal for more comprehensive cosmetic improvements.

Dental Bonding

Bonding is used to improve small irregularities in the teeth. A putty-like resin is moulded onto the tooth and shaped, before being hardened by light. The set resin is then trimmed and polished. Bonding is usually applied to a small area of the tooth to fix minor issues, like chips. It is typically faster and less expensive than porcelain or composite veneers.

Direct Laminate Veneers (Composite Veneers)

An alternative to porcelain veneers, direct laminate or composite veneers are used to conceal mild cosmetic issues. Like bonding, layers of a putty-like bonded ceramic material are applied to your teeth to recreate the natural colour of the tooth’s entire front surface. An intense light is then applied intermittently to cure and harden the ceramic material. The cured material is then polished and contoured to create a natural-looking tooth. Composite veneers are used for more extensive changes to the overall shape, colour and alignment of your teeth. It is a more complex process than bonding and can require more removal of the natural tooth structure.

FAQs

Clear answers for your dental journey.

Who is best suited to veneers?

Veneers are best suited for individuals with healthy teeth and gums who want to improve the appearance of minor cosmetic issues like stains, chips, minor crookedness, and gaps.

What is dental bonding?

Dental bonding is a cosmetic dental procedure that involves applying a tooth-colored resin to a tooth to improve its appearance. It can be used to repair chips, cracks, worn teeth and discoloured teeth, as well as to close gaps between teeth and to change the shape or size of teeth. Bonding typically involves minimal preparation of the tooth and can often be completed in a single visit.

While both composite veneers and dental bonding use the same material and can achieve similar results, the amount of material used and the extent of tooth preparation differ between the two procedures.

How do I care for my veneers?

Dental veneers should be cared for like natural teeth, with good oral hygiene which includes regular brushing, flossing, and dental checkups. Avoid biting or chewing on hard objects, such as ice or pencils, as this can damage the veneers.

Do veneers damage teeth?

Veneers require some removal of tooth structure, but the amount removed is minimal and generally does not damage the teeth. However, once the tooth structure is removed, it cannot be restored.

What is the procedure for getting veneers?

Typically, both types of veneers require at least two visits to the dentist. For composite veneers, the process can be time-consuming as the material is handcrafted directly onto your teeth. However, in some cases, this can be completed in a single visit along with your initial consultation and cleaning. In contrast, porcelain veneers require two appointments.

The first appointment involves tooth preparation, followed by placement of temporary veneers until the final porcelain veneers are ready. The temporary veneers are not as durable or stain-resistant but allow you to test your new smile and ensure your satisfaction. The final appointment involves cementing the porcelain veneers in place.

Do composite and porcelain veneers damage my teeth?

Composite and porcelain veneers involve the removal of some of the front teeth surface structure to make space for the veneers. The amount of tooth structure removed depends on the desired aesthetic outcome. For minor shape adjustments, composite dental bonding, which is a thin layer of composite resin, may be used without damaging the healthy tooth enamel.

What are veneers?

Veneers are custom-fitted shells that fit over the front of your teeth to improve the appearance of your teeth and smile, removing any faults or blemishes in your teeth.

Offered in porcelain, bonded and composite options, veneers are ideal for treating chipped, discoloured and misshapen teeth, as well as correcting gaps between teeth, particularly in the front teeth.
