Why you shouldn't skip a dental visit.

According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare,
32 % of adults aged over 15 have untreated decay.

We hear people say all the time;
"I haven't seen the dentist in ages!"

Squeezing in a dental appointment can be tricky. Life is
busier than ever and dental visits cost money.

But is it worth it? Yes!
Details and finishing touches

Your oral health is intrinsically linked to your overall health. When you skip your dental check-up, you’re putting yourself at higher risk of:

• Tooth decay
• Gum disease
• Tooth loss

This can contribute to more serious conditions such as:

• Heart disease
• Diabetes
• Respiratory problems

Skipping a dental check-up might seem easier at the time but it may cost you much more money and time in the long run.

According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, 32 % of adults aged over 15 have untreated decay. Furthermore, adults in Australia have 4.5 missing teeth each!

At Sydney Smile Doctor, we are passionate about changing these statistics and ensuring everyone in the Penrith, Western Sydney and Blue Mountains region has access to the highest quality dental care at an affordable price.

Say Goodbye to Dental Anxiety

Does the thought of visiting the dentist make you feel nervous?

Dental anxiety is common with 1 in 7 Australians reporting that they experience dental anxiety.

Dr Andrew Peterson understands some people may be nervous due to prior experiences. We believe modern dentistry doesn’t need to be painful or scary. You’ll be surprised how relaxed and comfortable you’ll feel here. We’ll work with you to find the best way to manage any anxiety so we can make it a comfortable and stress-free experience for you.

Our friendly and experienced Penrith dental team create a welcoming atmosphere that will put you immediately at ease.  You can even watch a movie while you have your dental treatment.

And… get ready to smile!

Offering world-class technology for your comfort

EMS Airflow

If you dislike getting your teeth cleaned – or more specifically, scaled – by the dentist, you’re not alone.

With this in mind, we use the Swiss-made EMS Airflow system. It cleans your teeth with a fast stream of heated water, and minimises the need for scaling.

This exceptional system is frequently used in Europe, but we’re one of the few clinics that utilise it in Australia.

With us, your teeth-cleaning experience will be a breeze. And you’ll walk out our doors with your smoothest, cleanest, most beautiful smile.

3D Scanner

To build crowns or veneers that fit you seamlessly, we need to first create a model of your teeth.

But we understand that few patients enjoy the process of physical teeth impressions. That’s why we use a digital 3D scanner instead, to make the process a lot more comfortable for you.

The 3D scanner also gives us a better picture of your mouth, allowing for a previously unattainable level of accuracy.

The result? Your crowns and veneers will fit perfectly, look better, and last longer.

Zeiss microscopes

We’re also the only dentists in the Penrith and Nepean region who use the internationally renowned Zeiss EXTARO 300 microscope – a revolutionary dental microscope that allows for greater accuracy and efficiency.

Dental issues can be detected more easily and quickly, which means less time in the chair.

FAQs

How often should I visit the dentist?

We recommend visiting every 6-12 months, depending on your needs, for a check-up and a clean.

What can I do to prepare for a dentist appointment?

If it’s just for a general check-up and clean, we recommend brushing and flossing your teeth at least an hour before your appointment. Avoid eating anything after you’ve cleaned your teeth and write down any questions or concerns you may have.

What should I expect during a dental cleaning?

We use an advanced Swiss-made EMS Airflow system that cleans your teeth with a fast stream of heated water, minimising the need for scaling. It’s completely pain-free and makes teeth cleaning a breeze. Your teeth will appear whiter, feel smoother and cleaner afterwards.

What should I do if I have dental anxiety?

Please let us know! We will take extra care to ensure you feel comfortable and relaxed. Please don’t feel embarrassed as it’s quite common.

What happens during a dental examination?

During a dental examination, we’ll carefully evaluate the heath of your teeth, gums, mouth and surrounding tissues. This typically involves a visual inspection, and we’ll use various dental instruments, including a microscope, to have a closer look. Usually, you’ll also need an Xray to have a more thorough look beyond what the eye can see.
We’ll listen to any concerns you may have and suggest further treatment if needed.

What are the most common dental procedures?

The most common dental procedures include fillings for cavities in teeth, teeth cleaning, teeth whitening, root canal, dental crowns, and dental implants. We offer all of these services at Sydney Smile Doctor.
